Payforit and the premium SMS industry

Friday, November 16th, 2007

After endless month of talking’s and discussions among the premium SMS industry payforit has finally become realty for UK mobile service providers. We have taken the opportunity to sum-up some of the advantages that payforit brings both for the consumer and the industry.

1. payforIT builds consumer confidence in mobile payment
The mobile internet has reached a tipping point. There is a proven demand for mobile delivered content however consumer confidence has suffered through the lack of billing transparency with Premium SMS billing. payforIT delivers an improved and consistent customer experience which can only lead to increased consumer confidence (and more transactions) in using the mobile to pay for good and services

2.  payforIT increases mobile service retailing opportunities
There are three incremental retailing opportunities that become available with payforIT. Firstly, when the consumer has completed his purchase, he will be returned to the Service Provider’s portal pages to continue browsing and possibly purchase additional services. Secondly, the payforIT scheme allows consumers to opt in to receive marketing communications from the Service Provider. Finally, whilst the scheme currently only applies to WAP services, it will be rolled out to encompass digital goods and services consumed via the Web – This represents an exciting opportunity for you to increase your retail sales.

3. payforIT can improve the billing success rates of mobile services
payforIT checks the mobile phone account balance before accepting the Consumer’s transaction. The transaction is then securely recorded which gives Service Providers the re-assurance of a guaranteed payment once the transaction has been accepted. This improvement in billing success rate will have a positive impact on your content revenues.

4. payforIT minimizes administration costs
As service providers are no longer required to host WAP payment pages within their portals, service support costs should be reduced. Costs will be further reduced by the simplified payforIT purchasing process and improved auditing process, which will help to reduce billing issues and therefore customer complaints. This will also reduce the time taken to deal with individual customer complaints.
